The Gift of Life

public

She was special, she was chosen, she was given a gift, and that gift was supposed to be wanted, cherished, kept and adored.

The gift was a man's love/desire.

She lost the gift... or was the gift taken away?

She was special, she was chosen, she was given a gift, and that gift was supposed to be wanted, cherished, kept and adored.

The gift was an unexpected pregnancy.

She lost the gift.... or was the gift taken away?

I was special, I was chosen, I was given as a gift (to those who paid).

There was not a word I could say.

They were special, they were chosen, they were given a gift, and that gift was supposed to be wanted, cherished, kept, and adored.

The gift was an another woman's child -- a re-gift... a gift that would keep on giving.

<long awkward pause>

After years of misuse, the gift finally broke.

<deep cleaning breath>

I am special, I am chosen, and I was given two gifts.

One gift is self-appreciation; the other is survival.  These are gifts I gave myself.

I learned two lessons from my own adoption story.  1) Not every person knows how to treat or care for a gift that is given.  2)  It's good to learn from other people's mistakes.
