Bond Reduction Request Made In Child Death Case

public

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- One of the suspects charged in the death of a 2-year-old boy wants her $500,000 bond reduced.

Nereida Allen and her friend, Joshua Peacher, are both charged in connection with the death of Allen's nephew, Christopher.

The child died last year after being taken to the hospital with signs of shaken baby syndrome.

Allen's attorney, Sheila Seadler, argued that it's unfair for her client to await trial just because her co-defendant isn't ready.

"It's wrong for her to remain in custody until August 2010 when she was prepared to go forward Dec. 1," said Seadler.

"We have two children taken out of the custody of their mother, and within 48 hours, both of them were taken to the hospital and one died," said prosecutor Jon Heck.

The judge denied the request.

Allen's bond remains at $500,000.

Allen and Peacher will be back in court in January.
