ELK GROVE, CA - Elk Grove police say a mother wanted for the 2008 murder of her adopted 3-year-old daughter has been arrested in Visalia.

Officer Chris Trim said Sabrina Banks faces charges of murder, assault resulting in the death of a child under 8 years of age, and endangering the life of a child in the death of Lavender Banks on May 2, 2008.

Trim said emergency responders were called to Banks' Sorrento Drive home that day by the suspect. She told paramedics the girl was unresponsive, said Trim. Medical personnel could not revive the 3-year-old and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Trim said the Elk Grove Police Department conducted a lengthy investigation and presented their findings to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. An arrest warrant was issued for Banks.

Trim said Banks would be transported to Sacramento County to face charges.
