Akron Beacon Journal

A Child's Waiting Adoption Program is looking for medical supplies as well as adoptive families for children in orphanages in Uzbekistan.

Agency co-director Jennifer Marando, who recently returned from visiting two orphanages for Russian, Kazak and Uzbek children, said many of the youngsters have serious medical problems that are going untreated.

The agency is collecting medical supplies at an open house -- 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at its new facility, 3490 Ridgewood Road.

Among the medical supplies needed are syringes, stethoscopes, enemas, blood kits, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, bandages and children's Tylenol or Advil.

Also sought are personal care items, such as nail clippers, scissors, crib sheets, baby blankets, pacifiers, washable infant chew toys, cloth diapers, baby lotion and wipes, diaper rash ointment, children's toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair brushes and combs, shampoo and soap.

An orientation meeting for those interested in adopting children will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at the agency's office. For more information, call 330-665-1811.
