From East west Adoption
Founder and Executive Director
Sharonn Gittelsohn, LCSW, a licensed, certified social worker received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work and Community Planning and is the founder of East West Adoptions, Inc. She has been professionally involved with adoptions since the early 1970's, and has personally assisted hundreds of prospective adoptive parents, both single persons and couples, through the adoption process. Sharonn's many years of experience performing home studies under the auspices of a number of international adoption agencies in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania, as well as managing an adoption agency in California, led to her decision to form EWA. She recognized the need in the S.F. Bay Area and other northern California counties for a small, international adoption agency, which could offer a complete, personalized service. East West will respond without bias to persons older than the traditional age for adoptive parents, and to unmarried individuals wishing to adopt abroad. The Agency's liberal eligibility requirements and diverse inter-country adoption connections has enabled it to accommodate families representing the rich, ethnic diversity of California, as well as prospective adoptive families throughout the United States, and interested persons living abroad. Home Studies are performed for California residents only. Sharonn is dedicated to placing children with qualified families who wish to adopt infants, toddlers, older children, sibling groups, children of mixed racial heritage and children with 'special needs' such as those youngsters identified as developmentally delayed or with correctable, minor medical or emotional conditions.
