The Centre was started in 1980 as a unit to receive and care for infants brought for admission to the Chatnath Homes SOS Children's Village orphanage.
Soon we had childless couples knocking at our door. "Would you give us a baby to bring up as our own? Why would you send a toddler to an orphanage when we have room in our hearts and our home. We can give a child a loving "normal" home environment?". So Karnaprayag started to process adoptions in India.
