Boy, 5, dies; mother arrested
A 5-year-old boy was allegedly murdered over the weekend, and Bakersfield police arrested his mother as their suspect.
Gloria Grayson, 58, was arrested after an autopsy Tuesday showed the boy was the victim of a homicide, according to a police news release.
The woman allegedly found her son unresponsive and lying on a bathroom floor in their house on Sunday. Grayson called 911, and the boy was rushed to Mercy Southwest Hospital. Police were summoned to the hospital after a coroner's investigator found out how the boy died.
The boy was identified in a coroner's news release Tuesday evening as Kevin Michael King, 5, of Bakersfield. His cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen.
Three foster children in Grayson's home were taken into protective custody. The police news release didn't specify if the victim was a foster child, too.
