Update from Haut de la Garenne

public

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 16.37 PM ON THURSDAY 13 MARCH 2008

Work has continued throughout the day - the floorboards and joists have been removed for easier access to the second cellar area below - forensic examinations in this area are ongoing.

Mr Harper has confirmed today that items have been found in the area of the second cellar but has stressed it is too early to say if these finds are significant to his enquiry.

Some journalists have contacted us about Mr Harper being quoted as saying the finds are "sinister" - use of this word alone would be incorrect - he has said it is too early to say if these finds are routine or something more sinister.

The items in question will not be expanded upon at this stage.

In view of the routine content of emails this week there will from now on be only one daily update - starting tomorrow - unless circumstances change.
