Baby Died From Blunt Force To Head

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The death of a 3-month-old baby in a southwest Bakersfield foster home Monday was ruled a homicide, 10News reported.

The Kern County coroner's identified the baby as Eduardo Calzada. They said Tuesday that the baby died from numerous blows to the head.

Police said Calzada was under foster care in the southwest Bakersfield home since Jan. 23. They said around 7 a.m. Monday, an adult called 911 and said Calzada had stopped breathing.

The woman living inside the home was caring for five foster children ranging in ages from 3 to 4 years. With the help of two assistants, she also ran a day-care center from her home.

Her state's foster care license was immediately suspended. The woman and her assistants have not yet been identified.

The medical examiner said although the preliminary report showed Calzada died from a blunt force to his head, it is possible that there could be other injuries. More tests will be conducted.

A final autopsy report is expected to be released within the next several weeks.
