Billy or Billie Rohrer was a 2.5 or 3.5 year old boy from El Salvador who died from brain hemorrhage 3 months after his adoption.
Maryanne "Mimi" Rohrer and her husband prominent politician/banker William G. Rohrer Jr. flew to San Salvador to arrange visa's for 2 unrelated children prior to having fully completed INS paperwork. Miguelito Alvarada (aka Pepe), 2 1/2, and Ana Cecelia, 2, were renamed William 3rd and Laura Lisa. Billy died under suspicious circumstances in 1975. The investigation was delayed and charges were not brought until 12/82 after the statute of limitations expired for manslaughter charges. Mimi was charged with murder. The Jury was hung on the murder charge, but thought they may have convicted on manslaughter, which was not available.
Likely no agency was involved, and it is unclear if a homestudy was fully completed, although Rohrer's had been working for 6 months on domestic adoption. Several background checks were missing from the INS files.

I'm Mimi's daughter...
Did anyone personally know Mimi? Or her husband? I guess I'm just really concerned now that I've found these articles. Mimi went on to live her life with Laura, Mimi's husband (William G. Rohrer) died around 1988 I believe. When Laura was in her mid teens, Mimi Rohrer adopted some more children. Today, I am one of her adoptive children. My whole Life I thought that the only people that were or had ever been in my family the oldest adopted sister, Laura Lisa Rohrer-Lindroth (now 37), another girl C.M. Rohrer (turning 21), a boy A.DM. Rohrer (20) and the youngest adopted, J.D. Rohrer. I never knew that there was ever a trial or that she even tried to adopt other children! I was going through some old photo albums and ran accross photos of 2 baby boys in the photos, and I asked who he was, and Marianne/Mimi Rohrer replied with "Well, he would go around hitting his head on things, so I couldn't get control of him and had to give him up." Now I KNOW that this little boy wasn't William G. Rohrer III because William died in 1975, and these photos were ranging from 1989-1991. So obviously my adoptive mother has had other children. But why didn't I know about this trial?? And how much evidence do they really need? I just want to know so much more, I'm just concerned I guess. I can prove that I am Mimi's adoptive daughter, I know she's the one in the articles. please contact me if you're interested or if you know anything.
Billy Rohrer
I only know what is in the papers about Billy Rohrer. There are more articles than the ones posted here on PoundPup, unfortunately they are archived and have to be purchased to read. News Library has many of them.
We didn't know that Mimi had adopted again, although she reportedly wanted to: "And, Mimi Rohrer said, she wants to adopt another child from El Salvador."
Billy is supposed to be buried at Locustwood Memorial Cemetery, "That's where Billy is buried. He's right to the left of that arch there."
There is a memorial at Find a Grave http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=rohrer&GSbyrel=in&GSdy=1975&GSdyrel=in&GSob=n&GRid=33170008 but no gravestone photo.
Family secrets are never good. Laura testified at her mother's trial, although she would have been too little to remember the events surrounding Billy's death.
Members of father William Rohrer would have information about the situation, Pamela Brill, Jean Dorothy Burak both had information. There are some more names here.
Please let us know if we can help in any other way. I am concerned about the other boy's photos from 1989 to 1991 era you mentioned.
