8 kids to remain in protective custody after boy's death

CRETE (WLS) -- Eight children will remain in protective custody after the death of a 12-year-old boy who lived with them in a south suburban Crete home.

Investigators are trying to determine if Kevin Johnson died from abuse Sunday. He was living with foster parents who were in the process of adopting the boy.

During a custody hearing for the other children Tuesday, it was revealed that another child from that home is now hospitalized.

A case worker testified that Kevin had rib fractures and head wounds before he died.

The Department of Children and Family Services was called to the home last April to investigate abuse charges.

So far, no charges have been filed.
