HOW COURTS HANDLED ABUSE

In spring 2003, Common Pleas Judge Jane Bond sentenced Gerald B. Hyre to the maximum penalty of 16 years in prison for felonious assault and child endangering. He is serving time in the Lake Erie Correctional Institute.

Bonnie Hyre spent 10 months in Marysville's Ohio Reformatory for Women for permitting child abuse and tampering with evidence. Bonnie failed to report her suspicions that her husband might be abusing their children.
