Mother of disabled girl charged with felony neglect

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - The mother of a 13-year-old developmentally disabled girl has been arrested in connection with the death of her adopted daughter.

Prince William County Police charged 44-year-old Alfreedia Leona Gregg-Glover of Manassas with felony child neglect and filing a false police report.

Police Chief Charlie Deane says investigators now believe Alexis "Lexie" Glover did not run away, despite what her mother claimed.

Glover's body was found in a shallow creek near the intersection of Asdee Lane and Greatbridge Road in Woodbridge on Jan. 9 - two days after she was reported missing.

Police say Gregg-Glover's lack of emotion and her alleged false story about her daughter vanishing from the Central Library in Manassas led them to believe she was involved in the disappearance. It appears the girl was never at the library, police say.

Prosecutor Paul Ebert won't say whether Gregg-Glover will be charged with her daughter's murder, but says more charges are likely.

Gregg-Glover is being held without bond.

At a press conference Wednesday, police thanked the community for helping them with the investigation

Approximately 300 law enforcement officers from various agencies - including helicopters, K-9 dogs and search and rescue crews - assisted in the investigation.

Officers also used a reverse telephone call system to alert residents and asked them to look for Glover around their home.

Police have not released a cause of death and say they are continuing to investigate.
