Reaction to Overton Decision

public

It was a day Bonnie Roy, Andrew Burd's biological grandmother says she has been waiting for since Hannah Overton's defense attorneys tried to get the capital murder charges overturned.

Roy told 3News that justice has been served and Andrew can finally be at peace.

Roy's reaction comes after District Judge, Jose Longoria denied a pair of motions filed by Hannah Overton's defense team which could have overturned her capital murder conviction.

Overton was convicted back in September in the poisoning death of 4 year old Andrew Burd. The boy she and her husband, Larry, were in the process of adopting. His capital murder trial is set for early next year.

Andrew's biological grandmother set up a shrine of pictures in honor of the little boy in her driveway on Tuesday night. 3News spoke with Bonnie Roy at her home in Flour Bluff to get her reaction after she learned Overton would not get any second chances at getting out of jail. Roy says she is happy with the judge's decision and says it helps bring some kind of closure to this very long and emotional year for her family.

Roy says, "We're very happy I've already spoken with his father and the rest of my family, they are all happy that justice was done for this little boy."
