An August trial date has been set in the case against a Roswell adoptive mother and grandfather who are accused of beating to death a disabled 3-year-old girl while she was in their care.

Veronica Bogey, 29, and her father, Terry Bogey, 52, also known as Teri Bogey, are facing two counts of child abuse involving death. In addition, Veronica Bogey is facing three counts of abandonment or abuse of a child.

Grace Bogey, who was born with spina bifida and was paralyzed from the waist down, died on Sept. 2, 2000. Autopsy results showed she died from head injuries resulting from abuse.

Veronica and Terry Bogey, who was known to dress and present himself as a woman, were arrested in North Carolina, where Veronica Bogey was teaching fifth grade. They were extradited to New Mexico in September.

Trial for the two is scheduled Aug. 5 before state District Judge Charles C. Currier in Roswell. The trial is scheduled to last three weeks, court records show
