More charges filed in child battery case

CLINTON - Three additional counts have been fled against a Clinton man charged with battering his adoptive son last June.

Mchael Van Hyning 24, faces three counts of aggravated domestic battery in connection with injuries sustained by 15-month-old Cameron Van Hyning. He was charged with three counts of aggravated battery of a child,

The new charges allege that Van Hyning punched the toddler in the face with his fist on June 4, slammed the child against the bath tub on June 11 and struck the child in the stomach and torso on June 23.

The toddler was transferred to a Peoria hospital with internal injuries after the June 23 incident. Van Hyning and his wife, Jodene, were questioned by police and state child welfare officials shortly after the child was taken to a Clinton hospital emergency room. Van Hyning was arrested on June 27. No charges were filed against the mother.

The Van Hynings have surrendered custody of the child whom they adopted. He was placed in foster care and is in the process of a second adoption,
