HONOLULU (KHNL) - The foster parents of five children who, prosecutors say, lived in a "house of torture" in Waianae learned their punishment Monday.
Gabriel Kalama earlier pleaded no contest to five counts of domestic abuse and two counts of assault. His wife, Barbara, pleaded guilty to six counts of domestic abuse and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor.
A judge sentenced each of them to a year in jail and five years probation.
Last Friday, the children's aunt, Rita Makekau, received a five-year prison term. Prosecutors say she was the worst offender, repeatedly beating the foster kids.
