Mother Charged In Death Of Toddler

January 9, 2007

Prosecutors charged a local mother with involuntary manslaughter and two charges of second-degree child abuse in the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Isaac Lethbridge died in August while living in a foster home in Detroit.

Lethbridge was found with burns to his chest, head and abdomen, and bruises to his face. Police said there was evidence of sexual assault.

Lethbridge was transported to Children's Hospital, where he died.

Lethbridge 4-year-old sister was also living in the home at the time of the alleged abuse, but was removed from the home by Child Protective Services.

The six other children in the house -- ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old -- were being relocated to a youth home. Two of the children were the woman's grandchildren, Local 4 reported.

Friends and family of the 58-year-old woman who runs the foster home said she would not hurt anyone and is a loving person.
