Medical Examiner's Report: Child Endured Repeated Abuse

Nov 15, 2008

Kyle Dlabay

A medical examiner's report shows that a baby who died endured repeated torture while in the care of his aunt and uncle. Christopher Thomas' two-year-old sister also was abused. The aunt, Crystal Keith, is charged with causing the boy's death by choking.

His sister has scalding burns and broken bones. Darlene and Robert Logan are temporary foster parents who took care of Thomas last spring. They believe the system failed the child.

"No one should have suffer like that," Darlene Logan said.

The Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare was supposed to check on Thomas every month but the child was on the brink of death this past week. That was 48 days after the last inspection. Child welfare says there will be internal and outside reviews of the case.
