Teen Pregnancy and the media mania...

Hello everyone,

Me and my big mouth...

With so many subjects near and dear to my heart, I have been posting on CNN as an i-reporter.

"Big Mouth" had to open her trap again about the 'double standard; involving Bristol Palin's teen pregnancy:

OMG! BEST TEEN PREGNANCY EVAR!

So, does anyone else remember when Jaime Lynn Spears was pregnant?

I do!

At the time, conservatives acted as though Ms. Spears pregnancy would send scores of underage 'Zoey 101' viewing girls out prowling the streets for a 'baby daddy'. Why it was equated by some on the right to the complete moral decay of America! Ms. Spears mother was considered a prime example of the worst possible parenting and was smeared.

Now, Bristol is expecting. Is she being damned by the conservatives? No! Bristol is Saintly for 'choosing life', and merely made a mistake in judgement. Ms. Palin is a wonderful lady because she told her daughter to have that baby.

C"MON!

Are either of these pregnancies 'normal'? No, they are celebrity pregnancies. Neither of these girls will have to leave their baby with the lady down the street while they go off to work the night shift a 'Taco Bell', then get home at 1am and get up at 6am for school. They will not have to use a WIC check to get formula. Nor will they have to ask around if anyone has a used car seat, high chair or baby clothes they don't need anymore. They certainly won't be the focus of a 'first name only' article in the local paper looking for folks to donate gifts to the Salvation Army at Christmas time.

These girls, Spears and Palin, will have a very different view of young motherhood. There will be cute pictorial interviews in 'People' magazine. Designer baby showers, probably also featured in a pictorial, will be held for them by their families. If they want to go to college, or stage a career come-back, a very nice, quailifed Nanny will care for that baby.

What about 'real' people and their children?

I ask you, Sarah Palin, what are you going to do for pregant and young mothers who are not a privledged as your daughter? Is it going to be the same old GOP lines of not wanting anyone to ever abort, and then not caring for the child once it is born? Are you going to get some legislation passed to help these girls, or are you going to help cut government funding.

Stop the red-herring tactics and work on some real issues.

Wow...

VERY well put!

If I may, for a moment role-play...

How would you respond if I stated simply:  "Adoption is the most loving option you can give to a mother who cannot afford to keep/care for her baby."?

LOL

Kerry,

Your horns are showing....

The sad thing is, I can picture that as the EXACT response....but as not an option for her daughter.

but they're not privileged,

but they're not privileged, they're just simple working middle class folks...that's why they're giving tax breaks to the "middle class."

even though 99% of the middle class don't make enough to qualify for those breaks.

Poor?

LOL...

Since when can even a middle class American afford things like an $800 stroller, or organic baby t-shirts going for $30 each?

One thing I am making a bet on is wether Bristol's baby's Nanny is an illegal alien....

Biting my tongue

You know, I have resisted joining the love-fest for Obama-
even though I called his nomination four years ago at the last DNC
even though I'm finally not embarassed whenever any american politician opens their mouth
even though in general terms I believe he has a better handle on the big complex picture and I was going to vote for him,
I still wanted to be civil to the right, despite Carl Rove's legacy.

but last night's SNARKY, vengeful comments at the RNC have wrung the civility right out of me.
i wish i could feel good about the fact that people hit low only when they're insecure and got no stance,
but the scarey thing is that kind of fear-mongering and rabel-rousing appeals to frustrated people.
it appeals to the lowest ugliest part of human character.

they need to be shown that's unproductive in world politics and that it's not acceptable at home.

anyway, congratulations to them - they just converted me into a democrat.
i have been independent my entire life, but i am signing up with the dnc.

so I'm going to say it -
the republicans sound like good ol' boyz living in the 19th century.
and they scare the shit out of me.
who's the last people who's finger we should let anywhere near the button?
...spiteful, vengeful, old boyz with double standards and their yup women, that's who...

LOL

The older I get, the sicker I get...   I enjoy when other people rip each other apart!  I can't wait for the next round from the
DNC aimed at the Right!  I hadn't even thought about good ole boyz and their women!  That was ripe.
