VISALIA -- Angela Thompson will spend 25 years to life in prison for murdering her adopted daughter -- a crime a judge said Monday was "more disturbing" than any he had ever seen.

Thompson, of Springville, rested her head on her lawyer's shoulder and sobbed as Judge Gerald Sevier denied a motion for a new trial and handed down the sentence.

Thompson, 42, must serve 25 years in prison before she is eligible for parole.
