When Richmond Police Officer Melanie Daggs arrived at the home of Charles McEntire one morning in November , he descended the front steps to greet her. "He said to arrest him because he just killed his son," Daggs, who now works for the Concord police department, said at a preliminary hearing Thursday. Acquaintances and family members describe McEntire, 57, as "gentle" and "passive." But a Contra Costa Superior Court judge ruled Thursday that he must answer murder charges after allegedly stabbing his 19-month-old adopted baby, Charles Thomas McEntire III, to death.
