Woman faces child abuse charges

A 39-year-old Gardnerville woman was jailed on $10,000 bail, charged with three felony counts of child abuse.

Sandy June Linn was arrested in District Court on Tuesday and charged with two counts of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm and one count of child abuse or neglect.

According to court documents, the abuse reportedly occurred from January 2003 until last October.

The charges against her alleged that she deprived a now 7-year-old boy of food and water to the extent that he is below average height and weight for his age group.

She also is accused of causing mental and physical abuse to the same victim.

The third charge accuses Linn of forcing a 6-year-old girl to stand in a corner for hours performing repetitive acts.

She also is accused of stuffing a washrag in the child's mouth.

The children have been removed from Linn's custody.

Prosecutor Kris Brown said she was unable to discuss confidential aspects of the case.

Brown objected to a request by Linn that she be released on her own recognizance pending further hearings.

"I've never been in jail before," Linn said.

Constable Paul Gilbert, filling in for East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl, refused to lower the bail.

He appointed lawyer Tod Young to represent Linn and set her next court appearance for Jan. 31.

Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Mezzetta said the arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the sheriff's office and Nevada Child and Family Services.
