Focus on Adoption, so adequately coined a Rogues Gallery by James Marsh, seems to have made internal changes as of late. Reviewing the who we are section of their website, it is plainly evident that Jeanene Smith no longer serves as treasurer.
Given Jeanene Smith's bad reputation as a result of the Masha Allen case it is no wonder that the ex-excutive director of Reaching Out Thru International Adoption has become a persona non-grata. But why now? Why not years ago, when it became evident that ROTIA was completely negligent in their post-adoption services? Was it only because ROTIA (renamed into ChildPromise in 2006) went out of business only a few months ago? Was it just the marketplace that dictated the removal of Jeanene Smith?
It can't have been the ethical motivations of Focus on Adoption.
There is more to the "who we are" page that has changed. The bio's of all board members have been removed. Is Debbie Spivack still affiliated with Focus on Adoption, what happened to Carl Jenkins, is Families Thru International Adoption still represented in the person of Chris Huber? All we do know is our view on Focus on Adoption has become even more blurred than it already was.

Focus on Adoption - new kid on the block
Traci Orr seems to have replaced Jeanene Smith. A quick google learned the following - source Guatadopt (2005)-
'... we want to express our gratitude to Traci Orr, of "For This Child", who worked very hard to raise THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS to fund the activities of ADA. Those funds have been used in an education campaign to change the way Guatemalan adoptions are perceived by the public in general and by the Guatemalan authorities in particular. Part of that campaign was the grant that allowed five Guatemalan congressmen to attend to the Second World Conference of Children Without Parental Care, that took place in Worcester, MA, in November.(co-sponsored by International Advocates for Children, Focus On Adoption, and Center for Adoption Research.) The Congressmen were able to attend the conference and to listen to people of many countries express their support of adoptions, even though many of them were public officers or delegates of the central authorities of their countries. For the Congressmen, it was a very enlightening experience. It was reinforced the next day when they attended a gathering of adoptive families sponsored by Wide Horizons, where hundreds of families and their children got together to celebrate adoption. Later in the day, they were invited to the home of the adoptive family of three Guatemalan boy, where they were joined by other families of children of our country. More than a thousand words, the love that they could see there, convinced the congressmen that adoption is a wonderful option that must remain open. Thank you Traci, and all of you who made this possible. God bless you.
Some lobbyiest!
Forced to focus on the details
I wonder if Adoption, and the ethics behind it's ways and means have new meaning to this Smith-woman who was forced to be removed from her paid-post. At the very least, she must see how easily it is to get replaced in these political schemes.
Sadly, I doubt the not-so-swift replace and removal will have any long-term effects on any of them.
I'm sure she, too, will find another job, (another role) somewhere within the Adoption Community. After all, it's a "family business"!
People like that are like cock-roaches... you can try to get rid of them, but they're still around. It's not enough to do surface cleaning... a complete break-down and evacuation has to be done, using frequent pest-controlling exterminations, so parasites like those don't keep invading and infiltrating a structure that's designed to be safe and sound. But that would cost money, wouldn't it? What smart, talented and resourceful agent wants a reduction in salary?
Makes you wonder just how many dirty hungry rats are in the adoption industry, doesn't it?
