Metro Briefing | New Jersey: Woodbury: Parents Indicted In Son's Death

The adoptive parents of a 5-year-old Russian boy have been indicted in connection with his death last year. The mother, Heather Lindorff, 37, of Franklin, was charged with aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault, child abuse and child endangerment, while her husband, James, was charged with child abuse. The indictments were handed up June 27 by a Gloucester County grand jury, but were not made public until this week. The couple remain free on bail, and no trial date has been set. The Lindorffs were arrested Feb. 26 and charged in the Dec. 14 death of their son, Jacob, one of three Russian children they adopted in October. The authorities said the boy died of blunt force trauma while under Mrs. Lindorff's care. He also had numerous bruises and scars, and his feet were burned. The couple's five surviving adopted children remain in the care of the Division of Youth and Family Services.
