Adoptive Father Again Accused Of Abuse

POSTED: 4:31 pm EDT May 8, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. -- For the second time in two years, a Central Florida man is accused of abusing his adopted children.Brian Kloosterman, 33, was arrested by Orlando police at his home Tuesday on a child-abuse charge. The arrest followed an allegation from the boy's nanny, who said she videotaped Kloosterman abusing the child on Friday.

Kloosterman was investigated in 2007 after doctors became suspicious of a brain injury to one of four Guatemalan children he and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Schreiner, adopted.Local 6 News talked to Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner Jan C. Garavaglia, who is known as Dr. G, on Thursday. She was contacted by Schreiner after the first allegation to get a professional opinion on the child's injury, Local 6 News reported.Dr. G found that the child suffered a brain injury that was not accidental but could not tell when the injury occurred. Since the child was adopted only three weeks earlier, there was no definitive answer to whether the injury took place while the child was in the custody of Kloosterman. The case was dropped and no charges were filed against Kloosterman.Kloosterman is again out of jail but has been told by a judge to stay away from his children.
