Oh, someone took it seriously? I'd seen the site through a link in an anti-adoption blog. She'd assumed it was a parody done by people who were critical of adoption practices. When I saw how the children were separated by race into "platinum" "gold" "bronze" and "onyx", I figured that made it pretty obvious that it wasn't serious, real racists are more subtle about putting a higher price on a white child than a black child. Sure, I've got a warped sense of humor, but if I thought it was real, I'd be disgusted. Of course, I'm already disgusted knowing that there really are agencies who value white children more than black, and the statistics prove it, but most Americans don't even seem to notice. Maybe if it was more blatant, it would get more attention.
Hiya, it was supposed to be taken as satire but personally i didn't find it funny. It wont take you long here to notice I have got a bit of a warped sense of humour (slightly twisted haha) but this bothered me. I Don't know if it was the subtlety of it that pissed me the most. or the fact that there have been cases in Europe of people selling their organs. Adoption is warped enough without putting ideas in peoples heads.
In the 60's and 70's (UK) the perfect adoptable commodity was a 'healthy white baby'. Then it was a case of the adopters were mainly middle class white couples who wanted a baby to match. The majority wanted the adoption to be a secret so the closer the match the better. Over the years though things have changed. . middle class white couples tend to adopt or should that be buy from their country of choice and because they want the world to know what a good deed they have done the child must be as far removed from white as possible.
The opinion I've got with regards adoption in America is its pretty much dominated by the white middle classes. Agencies to match and big bucks involved. Tell me if its different (I might just have been watching to much Hallmark, my fav chanel haha).
If I'm right then I fail to see how Americans don't notice. I'd say they do notice and those who say they don't chose not to because it doesn't effect them.
Oh by the way hello! and welcome aboard!!!
