My a.dad was known to explode into verbal fits of fury, when he got physically hurt/injured, but it was his usual conversations that made me and my brother laugh. Cursing was not a big-deal to us -- we had gotten used to his style of speaking, and as we got older, it wasn't shameful to sit with him and shoot-off a few "choice-words" placed within our discussions.
My a.mother, however, came from a house that didn't use offensive language as a verbal-release, so she would easily get turned-off with our goofing-around with my dad.
Oddly enough, my dad wouldn't get bothered if we watched something on TV that had coarse language, but he would get very bothered and uncomfortable if sex, or scenes of intimacy were shown on the screen. My mother would think nothing of that, but he would break the silence by saying, "OK, it's time for you to go to bed!!"
I have relatives who use the word "fuckin" like most people use other words in the English language to describe something. That's just everyday language for them. I never knew I had a bad-mouth until friends told me I cursed more than a truck-driver.

It wasn't so much the words...
My father was just plain vulgar! He would run around naked; make wolf calls at kissing scenes on the tv, but I was not
allowed to say darn...
