Children adopted by Sylvia Jovanna Vasquez

Three children, a 13-year-old boy, a 9-year-old and a 6-year-old girl, adopted by Sylvia Jovanna Vasquez were being locked up in cages and were found to be malnourished and and were wearing clothes soiled with urine and feces. A 12-year-old girl, also adopted, was being injected with a puberty-blocking drug, Lupron.

In 1982 Sylvia Jovanna Vasquez had kidnapped a girl from Mexico and using Child Protective Services stationary she removed three children from a Mexican orphanage in 1986. In 1990 she applied for a foster care permit, which was refused, because of her previous conduct. Despite being aware of this past Judy Taege of California state adoption agency allowed Vasquez to adopt four children.

Children adopted by Teresa and Jay Moody

Teresa and Jay Moody were accused of abusing their adopted children nearly three years ago. A 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were removed from their home in December 2005 and placed in foster care.
The couple avoided any jail time, however under the terms of a plea agreement, they were prohibited from being foster parents or providing services to children under 18.

Children adopted by Theresa and Reed Hansen

Theresa and Reed Hansen, of Saratoga Springs, Utah had been accused of felony and misdemeanor charges for withholding food, sometimes for days at a time, from two of their three children adopted from Russia, who were of pre-school age at the time. The abused boy and girl were bio siblings adopted 2 years after the first. All three adoptees were removed from the home in 2002 and have reportedly thrived since in new adoptive homes.

Children adopted/fostered by Maurice Martinez

Oklahoma City police sergeant Maurice Martinez adopted 3 children and had 3 children in foster care (all boys), four of whom were allegedly sexually abused by their adoptive/foster father. Martinez also allegedly allowed his adopted children to physically abuse each other and never notified the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
Police found photos and videos of his children being abused and homosexual pornography.

In addition, Martinez was also accused of intimidating witnesses from cooperating with police, conspired with a teenager to break into his home and steal evidence before police could seize it, and gave $400 to a victim to send him on a bus to Utah to obstruct the investigation.

Children at Hamro Jivan orphanage

Henk Molhuysen, the Dutch national director of Hamro Jiven orphanage in Kathmandu was arrested when found having sex with 12 and 14 year old residents of the orphanage. He had been previous convicted of child rape in Spain.

At least 3 of 4 children in care of Lottie R. Beasley and her husband were beaten with broomsticks, extension cords and plastic tubing. Boys ages 11 and 10, girls aged 6 and 3. One of the children was adopted, and 3 were in foster care with the Beasleys. Mrs. Beasley, the foster or adoptive mother was sentenced to 2.5 years in jail after pleading to third degree assault. The father was not charged.

Children in foster care with Jose and Juanita Miranda

3 boys and 2 girls were routinely beaten, drugged and sexually abused in the foster home of Juanita and Jose Miranda. The 6th child mentioned is a bio child. The children were forced to perform sexual acts with Jose and each other in a  padlocked room in the basement. Juanita had been arrested numerous times, jailed and had lost custody of her 2 bio children to California CPS prior to getting her Washington foster care license. At least 35 complaints over 7 years were submitted to Wash DSHS.

Foster father Jose Miranda confessed and was convicted of three counts of first-degree child rape, two counts of first-degree child molestation and two counts of third-degree assault of a child. He died in jail. Foster mother Juanita Miranda was never charged and died of a drug overdose.

Children in foster care with Leeds man

A Leeds UK father and son sexually abused and took pornographic pictures of  two young children in foster care of the father.

The father admitted a number of sex offences against children including four offences of rape of a child, two of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one of making indecent images of a child. He was jailed for 10 years and eight months. The son pleaded guilty to four offences of sexual activity with a child, five of sexual assault of a child and two of making indecent photographs of a child. The son was given an indeterminate prison after a report into his behaviour stated that he had “uncontrollable urges” towards children.

At least 3 of the 24 foster children in the care of Rex and Carol Case were sexually abused by Mr. Case. Including respite care and foreign students, Mr. Case claimed a total of 34 girls lived in their home over 35 years. 24 official foster care placement were recorded. The first report of abuse came in 1999, but children were still placed with the Cases until 2010.

Sharon Cramer moved to another foster care agency afterwards, when 15-year-old Nathan Zavala was placed in her home. Nathan forced his younger foster  brothers to perform oral and anal sex on each other and forced one of the boys to have sex with a dog.

Five girls ages 13, 11, 10, 9 and 5, in foster care with Stepan and Melody Erbacher were allegedly sexually abused by their foster father. Stephan Erbacher committed suicide before he could be arrested. Justin Erbacher, the foster parents biological son was accused of sexual abuse too and was convicted in August 2008, five months the girls testified they had lied in court about the abuse at the hands of Justin.

Children living at Casa Pia de Lisboa



In 1981, Portuguese Judiciary Police accused the caretaker of a Casa Pia state-run children's home of raping dozens of children over a period of 30 years, and supplying children to several men of both Portuguese and other nationalities, including some prominent personalities of Portugal. At the time, Portuguese Judiciary Police had possession of photographs taken by one of four men accused sexually abusing young children. These pictures inexplicably disappeared from the police files and the case against the caretaker was dropped.

The scandal of alleged sexual abuse at the state-run Casa Pia orphanages resurfaced when several former orphanage children came forward with accusations of abuse. The accusations linked some politicians, diplomats, and media celebrities — all of whom were alleged to have conspired in a pedophilia ring that had operated for decades. The scandal broke in September 2002 when the mother of one alleged victim, known as Joel, complained of abuse by staff at a Casa Pia house.

At least 13 children were sexually abused on a regular basis, or gagged, or beaten or given unnatural "punishments" at Barnardos Springhill Residential School in Ripon. One of the tormentors, Philip Anthony Dunne, received an 11-year sentence. Another abuser, Malcolm Stride, received 39 months.

Children placed with Todd and Lisa Mortensen

12-year-old girl placed with Todd and Lisa Mortensen was sexually abused by her "foster father". The placement was a private arrangement with the adoptive family of the girl.

In 2004, Todd Mortensen was charged with 65 counts of criminal sexual penetration and 20 counts of criminal sexual contact against another girl placed with his family. All 85 counts were dismissed by the prosecutor in 2005 because the girl was deemed mentally unstable to testify.

China Marie Davis

2-year-old girl in foster care with Dorothy Livingston was repeatedly beaten over the 11 months she lived with her care taker. She died after Livingston repeatedly kicked her down a staircase because China Marie refused to clap her hands to gospel music.

An autopsy revealed that she suffered a compression fracture of the spine, breaks in both forearms and wrists, two broken collarbones, fractures of both thighs, and a broken left arm, right rib and left hand.

Christian Blewitt



Three year old Christian was placed with along with his 2 younger siblings with inexperienced parents Angela and Ian Gay in Nov 2002. Six weeks after placement, Christian was admitted to a hospital then died. He had head injuries and a significant amount of salt in his bloodstream. The initial autopsy listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma.

Gays were initially found guilty of manslaughter. This verdict was overturned based on new medical evidence. At the second trial, they were found not guilty.

News reports of the second trial mention hydrocephalus and "salt diabetes" (Diabetes insipidus). Christian was alleged to have been diagnosed with hydrocephalus at 7 months. The condition was not monitored or disclosed to the Gays or the previous foster parents.

It is unclear if a medical condition, forced salt ingestion, physical abuse, or some combination of the three caused his death.

Christine Montalbano

Three year old girl from Tegucigalpa Honduras, adopted by Nancy Jane Montalbano on Oct. 28, 1996. Almost a year later she was beaten to death by Nancy after she knocked over the potty. Christine has 28 blunt force injuries including a lacerated liver and brain hemorrhage. Nancy also had a 4 year old son, Richard, adopted previously from Honduras.
At the time of the girl's death, Nancy was living with a common-law husband, who was not charged in the case.

Christopher and Christyanna Thomas

 

1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl were removed from their parents house, because their father was in prison and their epileptic mother was supposed to be incapable of taking care of them, were placed with a caring foster family, then removed to be fostered by their aunt Crystal Keith. In her home the two children were severely abused. Multiple calls to report suspected abuse went unheeded. The boy died because of serious head injury and his sister, Christyanna was removed  her weight had fallen below the first percentile, she had four fractures, could not use her left arm, and had burns "from head to her foot, some of which were consistent with flowing water burns with blistering and oozing observed on those wounds.". She remains in foster care.

Christopher Forder



8-year-old Christopher Forder stricken with pneumonia, heavily bruised and nearing death, only to call 911 after he had dies. Kimberly Ann Forder, Christopher's adoptive mother abused and neglected him to the point of death, never seeking outside medical help as his pneumonia grew worse. Adoptive father Robert Forder was not charged, though he also did not call for help.

Kimberly and Bob Forder homeschooled and home-churched the children. They did not seek modern western health care treatment the children. They told police Christoper's injuries were due to reactive attachment disorder.

In addition to Christopher, who was adopted from Oregon DHS, Forders had 3 adult bio children and 4 adopted or foster children. In 2005, after Christopher's death, they adopted a set of infant triplets from Liberia with the assistance of West African Children Support Network. In 2006, the Forders and the 7 remaining minor children moved to Liberia to serve as missionaries. Around the same time, one of their adult bio children was charged with raping another of their adult children.

In December 2007, the 7 adopted children were returned to Washington state from Liberia after Bob Forder had left them at a WACSN orphanage.

8-year-old girl, adopted by Rubin Stephen and Bettie Ramirez, was starved, had her arms and legs tied with tape, and was beaten with a cane to the point her brain and skull began bleeding. Her 10 year old sister and 6 year old brother were in the same home. CPS had been contacted numerous times.

Collin Parker William Holdgrafer



4-year-old boy adopted by his uncle and aunt, Andrew and Danielle Holdgrafer, drowned in a bathtub. Danielle Holdgrafer was charged with murder while Andrew Holdgrafer was charged with felony child endangerment, accused of not doing anything to help the child.

Connre Dixon

11-year-old girl in foster care with Paul Efaw and his wife was stabbed with a knife. Connre was stabbed five times, lacerating her heart, a lung and her stomach. She died from her injuries. Allegedly Paul Efaw had sexually abused her.

Corey Greer

4 month old Corey Greer died of dehydration and excess sodium in his blood 2 weeks after entering a foster home, possibly due to use of evaporated milk rather than formula. He was supposed to wear a heart monitor which was not used. Judith Arlene Lundy his foster mother was found guilty of manslaughter due to neglect.
Her foster home was licensed for 4 children but social workers had placed 12 children under age 10 at the time. Mrs. Lundy had previously reported that touching black children gave her "the willies". Mrs. Lundy appointed an 8 year old girl to take care of the baby. The girl told Mrs. Lundy Corey was sick the night before he died.

Cory Bradley McLaughlin

July 4, 1997, paramedics went to the North Carolina home of 45 year-old Eddiesenior Jones McLaughlin and found 4-year-old, adoptee, Cory Bradley McLaughlin, severely beaten. He was pronounced brain-dead at the hospital not long before he was taken off life support. Both of his little hands and one foot were burned. There were bruises on his back, stomach, legs, and a lump on his forehead. Mrs. McLaughlin's husband was deployed by the military at the time.

Danielle and Brittany Tucker (Dornan)

Christopher Allen Tucker and Rebecca Lynn Tucker first adopted Danielle, who at the age of four was pushed down the stairs by her adoptive mother, in their house in Coldwater, Michigan in December 8, 1995. At the time it was ruled an accident. Danielle was born with spina bifida and Down's Syndrome. Despite what had happened, the Tuckers were allowed to adopt two of Danielle's sisters a month after her death.

Soon afterwards, the Tuckers moved to Trenton, Utah after complaints had been made about abuse the of Brittany, one of Danielle's sisters.

In November 1997 authorities found Brittany, 6-year-old at the time, starving in a locked basement room. The basement room was furnished only with bare metal bedsprings, a wooden spool, and a metal tub containing dirty brown water, which the girl drank from and bathed in. She had been in there for at least 5 months.

Rebecca Tucker received a sentence of 5 year imprisonment for the abuse of Brittany and 8 to 15 years for the killing of Danielle. She is currently imprisoned Michigan. Chris Tucker received a sentence of 1 to 15 year imprisonment.

All 3 girls suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome. Two biological boys and the 3rd girl where apparently unhurt.

Danielle Christine Neal and unnamed Neal child

In October, 1993, Victoria Neal admitted being responsible for the death of Danielle Christine Neal, a 13 month old girl adopted 4 months earlier from Korea. Danielle died Sept 2, 1976 of brain injuries. She had partially healed fractures of her legs, arm and collarbone. A second girl adopted from later Korea was removed from her custody after being admitted to a Toldeo hospital with brain injuries in 1979.
Glenn Neal was not charged.
