Canine search assets at Haut de la Garenne
In relation to the use of canine search assets at Haut De La Garenne:
The Enhanced Victim Recovery Dog (EVRD) and the Human Blood Search Dog were deployed within the search site at the request of the States of Jersey Police.
Several alert indications from both dogs have been forthcoming and due to the nature of the enquiry were investigated by archaeological intrusive excavation and forensic examination..
The first indication by the EVRD in the north western stairwell resulted in a meticulous archaeological excavation leading to the discovery of the item which is causing some concern in the media. Included in the spoil from that immediate area was a significant amount of burnt bone which has not at this time been submitted for forensic examination.
This area is of interest to the investigation team as being the location where it is reported that human remains MAY have been recovered previously during renovation in 2003.
Further alert indications within the building by the dogs have been corroborated as being human remains and blood.
As with all investigations of this type any alert indications by the canine assets must be scientifically corroborated to confirm human origin and DNA tested to confirm identity.
